Who Can Apply:
Applicants must attend and complete training in a Fellowship Council-designated Foregut Fellowship program. The fellowship program must receive the Foregut designation before the applicant completes their fellowship training. Click Here to check if your Program is eligible.
Application Cycle:
The application for 2023-2024 fellows has closed.
Applications for 2024-2025 fellows will open in spring 2025. Once the application is opened and the fee paid, the applicant will then have one year – through July 31, 2026 – to complete the program requirements.

Application Requirements:
- Join or upgrade to Active/Regular membership in at least one of the four Sponsoring Societies:
– AFS (American Foregut Society)
– ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery)
– SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons)
– SSAT (Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract)
- Provide proof of attendance to at least one of the Sponsoring Societies’ annual meetings during the applicant’s fellowship year (CME certificate or copy of a badge).
– AFS: Annual Meeting, September 26-29, 2024 – Aurora, Colorado
– ASMBS: Annual Meeting, June 15-19, 2025 – National Harbor, Maryland
– SAGES: Annual Meeting, March 12-15, 2025 – Long Beach, California
– SSAT: Annual Meeting, May 3-6, 2025 – San Diego, California
The Sponsoring Societies strongly encourage the fellowship program to sponsor the fellow’s attendance.
- Provide proof of attendance to at least one of the Sponsoring Societies’ annual meetings during the applicant’s fellowship year (CME certificate or copy of a badge).
- Provide evidence of scholarly activity during the fellowship year or within the application time frame. The evidence may include proof of an abstract submission suitable for a local, state, regional or national meeting (acceptance not required), grand rounds, authorship of a book chapter or journal article, or a Patient Safety/Quality Improvement project.
- Provide the name and email address of the applicant’s Foregut Fellowship Program Director. The Program Director will be asked to complete an online attestation form for the applicant.
- Upload a copy of the applicant’s Fellowship Council Case Log showing minimum total and defined category case numbers have been met. FOREGUT designation case criteria.
